Flag ceremonies
Positions
Caller (1) - Scout learns calls below and can recite them without reading. May use calls below as notes. Practice for two weeks before ceremony.
Caller Helper (1) - Parent who stands with Caller to help with calls
American Flag Carrier (2)
American Flag Stand Carrier (1, optional)
American Flag Helper (1) - Parent who walks with American Flag Carriers to help with proper flag handling
Pack Flag Carrier (2) - The Pack Flag is very top heavy with awards. It often takes two scouts to carry it.
Pack Flag Stand Carrier (1, optional)
Pack Flag Helper (1) - Parent who walks with Pack Flag Carriers to help with proper flag handling
Den Flag Carriers (1 per den) - carries Den Flag
Den Flag Stand Carriers (1 per den, optional)
The Assigned Den should practice the entire flag ceremony a few times during the Den Meetings before the Pack Show.
Different scouts can do different roles for opening and closing ceremonies.
Opening Flag Ceremony Script
Caller is in the front of the room. Flag Carriers and (optional) Flag Stand Carriers set up in back of room.
American Flag and Stand will go on Callers left hand side.
Pack Flag, Pack Flag Stand, Den Flags, and Den Flag Stands on Callers right hand side.
CALLER: Audience, please rise.
CALLER: Attention.
CALLER: Color Guards, retrieve the colors
Flag Carriers pick up the flags and (optional) Flag Stand Carriers pick up the stands
CALLER: Color Guards, advance
Flag Carriers and Flag Stand Carriers start walking towards the front of the hall.
CALLER: Salute
(Everyone not carrying a flag or flag stand salutes)
(Just in front of stage, Color Guards cross. Sequence is:
American Flag
Pack Flag
American Flag Stand
Pack Flag Stand
Den Flags and Stands
American Flag will now be on Caller's right hand side.)
CALLER: Color Guards, prepare to post the colors.
(Color Guards put stands on ground and align flag pole with old in stand.)
CALLER: Color Guards, post the colors.
(Color Guards put flag into stands. American Flag should be last. Rotate flag poles so Eagle and Cub Scout sign face audience.)
CALLER: Color Guards, salute
CALLER: Please, join me in the Pledge of Allegiance
