It is an honor to serve as the Cubmaster of Pack 32 for the 2024/25 scouting year. I am grateful to be chartered by the American Legion 419 and deeply appreciate their support and the opportunities they provide. This year promises to be exciting as Scouts BSA, now Scouting America, introduces a refreshed Cub Scout program designed to be Simple, Fun, and Easy.

Our scouting adventures will include cherished activities such as camping, hiking, parades, barbecues, the Pinewood Derby, fishing, the Blue and Gold Banquet, popcorn fundraising, community volunteering, and much more. I am thrilled to continue the tradition of strong leadership that initially drew my family to Pack 32 two years ago.

My passion for Scouting comes from its focus on skill-building and character development, instilling lifelong values like sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership while promoting an active lifestyle. I am excited to collaborate with Pack 32 parents, each bringing their unique expertise. Together, we will leverage Scouting America’s training opportunities to enhance our skills and pass this knowledge on to our scouts. I am particularly eager to deepen my understanding of environmental stewardship and outdoor success.

I look forward to fostering strong friendships and building a supportive community where our collective expertise enriches the scouting experience for every family. Pack 32 thrives on its vibrant sense of community, which depends on the active participation and dedication of our parents and volunteers. Your involvement is crucial to our success, and I sincerely appreciate all that you contribute.

With over 20 years of experience in municipal recreation, I am committed to creating a sense of community through safe and enjoyable activities for our Pack. I am excited to volunteer alongside you and grow together with the Pack 32 community.

I LOVE SCOUTING!

I remember being an 8 yr. old participating in Cub Scouts way back in the day at Hanscom Field in Massachusetts, starting Scouts BSA (it was called Boy Scouts back then) in Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota and, later, getting my Eagle award in Rome, New York.  Working as staff at the local summer camp (Camp Kingsley!) as well as staff for the National Jamboree.  Now both my son and daughter are in and enjoying an even bigger program.  The spectrum of opportunities has grown since I was a Scout.  Seeing them grow with their friends in confidence and skill while having a great time has been a joy.

The things I want to pass on to my kids are all the adventures, big and small, learning how to “live thoroughly” in every place I’ve lived up to the present day.  In Scouting, as a youth, I was able to participate in leadership at the section level covering several counties.  I’ve done a 60-mile canoe trip through the Adirondak Mountains, camped in the snow both in North Dakota and New York, built towers out of logs, learned and taught wilderness survival, learned how to use tools and plan projects (and follow through!), how to do first aid and save lives, and did it all with friends that I still, many years later, keep in touch with.

As an adult, I’ve held a lot of roles, Assistant Scoutmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leader, Pack Committee Chair, Day Camp Director, and so on.  I love doing volunteer work for Scouts and watching someone learn something cool and see that moment where the kid yells “I got it!  Did you see that?  Did you see?”  When a kid walks 2 miles or 20 (with a few breaks) for the first time.  Building from “I don’t know how,” to “no big deal,” to “hey, let me teach you something pretty cool.”  Seeing that happen is one of the greatest joys in the world.  Being an adult volunteer in Scouting lets you walk beside some really awesome people, both those at the beginning of their journey and those that help others find their way.

Pack 32, with the support of the American Legion, is a unit with a history 73 years long.  I don’t know it’s first Cub Scout or its first Cubmaster and I won’t know their last.  We’ve worn out flags, we’ve been around so long.  We’re older than the States of Alaska and Hawaii.  In the fabric of our community for that long.   We’ve learned, grown, and adapted to change and it just keeps getting better.  Being part of that tradition is a singular privilege and one I look to being a part of for a few more years.

C’mon!  Let’s go on an adventure together!
