Sanborn County Park Hike

This Saturday, Pack 32 we will be hiking in Sanborn County Park, located off of Route 9, about 10 minutes from downtown Saratoga and 25 minutes from downtown San Jose. We will meet in and around the parking lot near Peterson Grove at 9am. The map to the park is here: https://www.sccgov.org/sites/parks/parkfinder/Documents/SanbornGuideMap.pdf

We will be hiking the one mile nature trail (signified by trees on the map). It's an easy hike along a stream bed and through a lush second-growth redwood forest. Ask the ranger at the pay station (entry and parking is $6) for a guide to the nature trail. There are a dozen numbered points of interest along the trail. We'll use the guide to explain what we are seeing. The trail is heavily covered with trees so sun exposure will be light.

Bring a sketch pad or paper and pencil. We'll do some leaf and needle rubbings for a craft on the picnic tables after the hike. I will also bring the Knot Ladder and teach some knots to the scouts.

Don't forget sunscreen, water bottle, insect repellent, and a snack. Wear your Class B's (Pack T-shirt).

During this outing we will partially cover the following Advancement Adventures by rank:

Tiger: Backyard Jungle, Tigers in the Wild,

Wolf: Call of the Wild, Paws on the Path

Bear: Bear Necessities, Fur/Feather/Ferns,

Webelos: Walk About, Into the Woods, Camper, Scouting Adventure

I hope to see your family out this Saturday.
